Details
Brilliant receives strong praise for its interactive, engaging approach to learning math, logic, Python and critical thinking across all ages, with many users adopting it as a productive daily habit. However, reception is mixed due to heavy criticism of its monetization model, limited free access, billing practices and occasional technical or content issues. Overall it is seen as high-quality but potentially inaccessible without a subscription.
What users love
Interactive lessons that build real skills in math, logic, Python and critical thinking
Fun, rewarding format that replaces bad habits and encourages daily use
Suitable for wide range of ages and skill levels from kids to advanced topics
Multiple subject choices and effective for review or refreshing knowledge
Where it falls short
Very limited free tier (only 2 lessons/day) and expensive subscriptions
Misleading billing, difficult cancellations and poor refund policy
Shallow gamification that feels like quizzes rather than deep learning
Technical problems including laggy graphics, bugs, poor AI explanations and interface issues
Only two free lessons per day feels restrictive for a learning app
Introduce a generous free tier with 5-7 daily lessons plus optional ad-supported mode
Target → Budget-conscious students and casual learners who would switch from Duolingo-style apps
Billing traps and hard-to-cancel yearly subscriptions
Add one-tap monthly toggle, clear trial-end reminders and instant refund button within 48 hours
Target → Users burned by subscriptions who want transparent pricing

Pretty Good!!
The only thing I would improve is graphics, the frame rate is a little slow and laggy, but overall, the app is perfect! I love it!

My new morning habit
This app replaced my negative habit of doomscrolling on social media. Not only has it increased my skills in math and logic, but my critical thinking and mental endurance increased. The app is fun and rewarding for me to continue to daily. Highly recommend for those who are looking for a new productive habit and fun way to learn different topics.

Complaints
Over Gamefied that is better for review than it is for learning
I purchased this premium version based on a great “review” and the fact that Brilliant received Editor’s Choice designation. \n\nI worked it every day and moved through the various levels (usually finishing first in my cohort) and finished #1 in the highest tier. \n\nI tried multiple courses from basic (intro to Python) to very advanced (Abstract Algebra). My conclusion is that this is a waste of time (and money). \n\nIt feels like 20 Questions for math. The questions often have only 2-3 responses and

Poor customer service
Extremely bad. Won’t refund your yearly purchase when its automatically enrolled even if I asked for an immediate refund. Just be mindful of it.

Don’t like the AI review
The original explanations were fine. Then they switched to the AI explanation. The interface is terrible and it’s hard to scroll. It also doesn’t have visuals in the explanations. I haven’t figured out how to turn the AI assist off and go back to the regular explanations. Updates should improve the user experience. This feature does not.
