Finch: Self-Care Pet receives strong praise for its gamified approach to mental health, habit tracking, and daily tasks, with many users appreciating the free content, cute pet customization, and social features. However, it faces criticism over billing problems, inclusivity concerns, lost progress, and rigid mechanics that penalize missed days. Reception is mostly positive among those seeking fun self-care tools but polarized by specific user values and technical frustrations.
What users love
Gamifies tasks effectively for ADHD and habit building with streaks and rewards
Generous free version with plenty of items, customization, and no paywall pressure
Cute pet (penguin) with outfits and visuals that make wellness fun
Social features like friends, good vibes, and goal sharing enhance motivation
Flexible goal editing, reflections, widgets, and progress tracking
Where it falls short
Billing and subscription issues including unauthorized charges and lost access
Pronoun prompts and perceived bias toward LGBT content alienate some users
Lost progress, rehatching bugs, and inability to retroactively complete days
Long unskippable animations for milestones cause frustration
Strict rules punish users for forgetting weekends or busy periods
Billing and subscription problems with repeated charges
Add transparent subscription dashboard with easy cancel, grace periods, and one-tap billing history
Target → Users burned by apps with sneaky payments who want control
Inability to fill missed days and rigid streak penalties
Introduce optional retroactive logging and forgiving streak modes with catch-up quests
Target → Busy adults and weekend forgetters seeking low-pressure self-care
Pronoun prompts and perceived exclusion of non-LGBT groups
Make onboarding fully optional for pronouns and add customizable holiday/military/faith themes
Target → Users wanting neutral or broadly inclusive wellness apps

A great support
It’s been so sweet to have this app as a support for my mental health every day. And having friends who use it too helps me to enjoy it not just for myself but for others too! I love cheering on my friends.

The best
I can’t believe how much you get for free. I’ve never stuck with something like this before. It’s a great app for everyday use to gamify your daily tasks. Thanks, Finch.

Why did you delete my review??
I really did love this app. I miss it, and some times I wish I could come back. It's very helpful for self care. \n\nBut I can not support the developers. This app is way too woke and bigoted. Very pushy towards the queer community, but no other groups. Christians? Nope. Holidays? Nada. Military? Nope. Only LGBT. Annoying. I followed their Facebook page too, and they ask for suggestions, but don't actually care about any. \n\nTime to find a different self care app.
